Scoville Hotel building for sale in downtown Atlanta
I’m very happy to hear that the Scoville Hotel building on downtown Atlanta’s Hotel Row — which has been unused for years — is up for sale. This means a buyer could turn it into a new boutique hotel.
The news comes from a post by Thomas Wheatley at the Creative Loafing. Wheatley wrote an excellent piece on this south downtown area a few months ago and the struggles to inject some economic vibrancy there. Worth a read.
These great old buildings deserve to be fully occupied and patronized. Here’s some background info on this historic block from the National Park Service:
Hotel Row is a single block of historic commercial buildings along Mitchell Street that, when built, was part of Atlanta’s original business district, in the shadow of the city’s main railroad station… Several buildings were built specifically as hotels.
Now let’s all go to Lunacy Black Market (a Hotel Row restaurant) for dinner in honor of this news.
