This Brighten Up Broad Street event tonight was a lot of fun. The food trucks, the music and other performers, the pop up gallery — it was all really great. I loved experiencing Broad Street South this way and it definitely fired my imagination in terms of seeing what this long-neglected (and once lively) block could be.
For those unfamiliar, this event followed a pattern used by Build a Better Block and other tactical-urbanism initiatives. The concept is to temporarily spruce up a block that’s underused and full of vacancies and show people the potential it has for investment.
My favorite part was getting to browse through the stuff inside Miller’s Rexall Drugs. Their collection of old-fashioned medicines and hoodoo and curio items has to be seen to be believed. I recommend a visit if you’re downtown.
