Atlanta: City in a Forest (most of the year)
farrenb: Atlanta by RobRGregory on Flickr.
What a beautiful photo of Atlanta! Take a look at the large version. What I love about it is seeing all the green trees mixed in with the buildings. You really get the “city in a forest” feel from looking at this.
The green will be leaving us soon with the fall weather coming in. I always get a little sad when the trees lose their leaves because that greenery is one of the best things about Atlanta.
And the leafy trees can hide a multitude of aesthetic sins in Atlanta’s built environment. All the asphalt of super-wide roads and parking lots — it’s much easier to absorb with the eye when it’s tempered by beautiful green trees. This winter I think I’ll take care to find what parts of the city look nice even without the greenery.
